Tom Sockwell has been a resident of Mohave County for 19 years, moving here after retirement from Hughes Aircraft Co. in southern California in 1988.

Tom has been active in community projects and has been involved with the Kiwanis, the Colorado River Concert Association, the Republican Forum, which he served as president for several years and the NRA. Tom is past president of the Punto de Vista Home Owners Association, was on the board of directors of the Thumb Butte Water Co. for a number of years and is currently on the Board of Directors of the Mohave Water Conservation District. Tom is also a member of the Mohave County Water Authority.

Many positive achievements have been realized since Tom Sockwell has been on the County Board of Supervisors.

The Supervisors created a capital fund for the purpose of improving county facilities. They do not spend property tax dollars on construction of facilities. We have been able to construct a new Sheriff's Office and a new Administration Building to get county employees under one roof and out of the old crumbling buildings they were in for so long.

Tom worked long and hard to get the new Dist. 2, Superior Court Building in Bullhead City.

Plans are underway for several new capital projects in District 2, as well as the County, which include a new sheriff's substation in Ft. Mohave and expansion of the County Annex in Bullhead. We are planning the expansion of the Mohave County Branch Library in Bullhead City. Tom promoted libraries in both Golden Valley and Dolan Springs. Tom is also working to develop a county park in Mohave Valley. Tom promoted the new administration building at the county complex in Kingman and the proposed new jail. Tom also supported development of the Airport Center.

Tom was instrumental in the elimination of flood problems along Highway 95, from Camp Mohave to El Rodeo and near Joy Lane. Tom has also worked to expand Vanderslice Road as an alternate route to relieve the congestion on Hwy 95 from Mohave Valley to Bullhead City.

Dist. 2 has come a long way in the past six years. We have many new businesses and residents. We have received help thru Community Development Block Grant funds for renovation of homes of the elderly and disabled in Mohave Valley and Golden Valley.

We created an Office of Management and Budget to handle internal audits.

Developed emergency management division.

Supported and funded the fight against the deadly meth problem.

Supported Arizona Veterans Memorial, Chambers of Commerce, development of Airport Property.

Mohave County General Fund is now debt free. His plan is to keep the county progressing under a fiscally responsible balanced-budget concept.
