Mohave/La Paz Workforce Investment Board

 The Mohave/ La Paz Workforce Investment Board provides oversight and direction for the Arizona Workforce Connection's One-Stop System of business and employment programs throughout Mohave and La Paz Counties . Private and public sector leaders join forces to promote effective and efficient workforce development programs and services to customers.

 

Membership

The Mohave/ La Paz WIB members are appointed by their respective County Board of Supervisors, and certified by the Governor. The members represent many components of workforce development including business, labor, education, economic development, employment and training, city and state agencies, city and regional planning organizations, chambers of commerce, youth serving agencies and other service providers.

Mohave/ La Paz 2009 WIB Membership

In addition to programs for adults and dislocated workers, as well as targeted programs for seniors, Veterans, and other, the workforce programs administered within the Workforce Investment Area (WIA) serve youth who are ages 14 - 21. The WIB sponsors the Mohave/ La Paz Youth Council to provide special expertise and oversight to the development of effective youth strategies.

Initiatives

WorkKeys Certificates
  • In 2005, the WIB voted to sponsor the WorkKeys Certificate program throughout the region.
  • The Certificates represent a national benchmark of workforce performance with respect to occupational skill levels. WorkKeys Brochure
Coalition Youth Team - COYOTE
  • The WIB and Youth Council are sponsors of this public-private partnership designed to leverage resources to create and enrich opportunities for youth employment and development. COYOTE Brochure
Occupations in Demand List
  • The OID list is revised bi-annually to ensure that demand occupations are identified and eligible training providers are approved.
  • Training funds associated with federal employment and training programs are linked to this list. OID List

Strategic 2-Year Workforce Investment Plan and ARRA Local Plan Modification

  • Every two years the Workforce Investment Plan is modified.  The current plan expires June 30, 2010.  The plan was modified in 2009 to incorporate the changes that needed to be made in order to implement ARRA.
